Repair Communities

About

Repair Communities is a new initiative from Whitley Bay Big Local. It's all about bringing people together to reduce loneliness and help to reduce waste. In the coming months we will be launching a number of projects for different groups. You don't need any particular skills to get involved with Repair Communities, just a willingness to get involved, to learn new skills and to take an interest in reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill.

Pilot Project - Recharge

Recharge aims to reduce the amount of electrical waste reaching landfill. At the same time it's about bringing isolated men together to learn fixing skills, pass on knowledge/experience and to support each other.

It doesn't matter if you don't know your way round a circuit board or even a plug. You will be supported by experienced fixers who can show you how to do anything from replacing bulbs to re-wiring lamps

Alternatively, you may be a highly experienced fixer and want to pass on skills or save items from landfill. You're more than welcome at Recharge!

This pilot project is funded by Newcastle University. This project is only open to men who sometimes or often experience loneliness. Sessions will start in October 2024. To get involved, or for more information email:
