Whitley Bay Carnival
More than 800 local people took part in the Whitley Bay Carnival which was organised once again by local Whitley Bay resident and professional carnival producer Carol Alevroyianni.
WBBL supported the event for the third consecutive year. Carol successfully secured a grant from the Arts Council England. This enabled her to enlist a team of experienced carnival artists, musicians and dancers living in the town to work with local schools and community groups to create the beautifully crafted carnival structures and spectacular costumes for the parade.
A number of local business pledged to sponsor this year’s event which was a fun filled day featuring music and entertainment at the Station and at the Spanish City Plaza together with a colourful circus themed parade through the town. Click here to view the Photo Gallery.
Friends Of Whitley Park
WBBL has supported ‘Friends of Whitley Park’ to help improve the look and
feel of the park and make it a space for people of all ages to enjoy. Not only have some of our volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help the newly formed ‘Friends of Whitley Park’ plant trees, we have also met the cost of the trees and plants and enlisted the professional support of a local landscape artist to advise on what trees to plant and where to plant them to ensure they are here for years to come. A special thanks must go to Maughan’s Home Hardware in the town, who offered us a discount on the gardening equipment order to show its support to the community’s hard work.
